Production test release 0.5.27

Set up Toggle in 8 steps

Production test release 0.5.27 for Apple silicon Mac. Physical iPhone validation is pending. Setup is enabled only for explicitly allowed test accounts. Toggle creates a local backup, applies its settings with a limited restore, and checks the result before you finish.

What you need

  • A Mac with Apple silicon
  • A USB data cable
  • Enough disk space for an encrypted recovery backup
  • A password you can save safely for your local backup
  • Wi-Fi and time to finish setup

On your Mac, open Toggle → Check for Updates… to install 0.5.27.

Keep your backup

A limited restore can fail or leave setup unfinished. Keep the encrypted recovery backup and its saved password for future recovery; Toggle retains it until you explicitly delete it. Recovery may require a full restore.

The 8 steps

Toggle walks you through each one.

  1. Step 1: Link

Sign in to your dashboard and link Toggle with your setup code.

  2. Step 2: Plug in and check

Connect your iPhone with a cable. Unlock it and tap Trust. Toggle checks its identity, software version and available space.

  3. Step 3: Security settings

Follow the app’s instructions to turn off Find My. If your iPhone starts a Security Delay, follow the app’s wait-and-backup guidance, then finish turning Find My off before applying settings.

  4. Step 4: Automatic backup

Toggle copies your iPhone using its current backup settings. It does not ask for, set or change backup passwords. Existing encryption stays enabled if already set; an unencrypted phone backup stays unencrypted. Keep any existing password for recovery in Finder or Apple Devices. iCloud Backup is optional.

  5. Step 5: Confirm on your iPhone

Toggle does not ask for, set or change backup passwords. It copies using your iPhone’s existing backup settings. Unlock your iPhone and enter its passcode or approve Trust if prompted; those prompts stay on the iPhone.

  6. Step 6: Apply settings

Confirm setup, then keep the cable connected during the limited restore. Toggle changes setup and management settings. Physical iPhone validation is pending for this test release. Check the result; data preservation can vary with the iOS version.

  7. Step 7: Restart, reconnect and verify

After the restart, unlock your iPhone and trust this computer again if asked. Follow its setup screens and wait for Toggle to check local settings and server enrollment.

  8. Step 8: Restore security settings

Turn Find My back on following the app’s instructions. Restore any other security setting you changed if your iPhone asked you to change it.

  9. Step 9: Done

Check your apps, photos, messages and passwords. Keep the recovery backup and its password for future recovery. Toggle retains the backup on this computer until you explicitly delete it.

After setup

Manage Bundles, Blocks and Schedules from your dashboard. Keep the cable and original setup computer available for recovery or removal.

Blocks start and end over the internet. If your iPhone is offline when a Block ends, apps return when it reconnects.

Check your apps, photos, messages and passwords before putting your backup away.

Keep Toggle, the encrypted recovery backup and its password. Toggle retains the backup until you explicitly delete it; removing Toggle settings does not automatically delete your backup.

Stop during setup

Before settings are applied, turn Find My back on and restore any other security setting you changed. After the restore starts, use Toggle’s recovery instructions.

Keep the cable connected. Recovery and removal remain available even when new setup is disabled.

Reset the installer

In Toggle on your Mac, open the Toggle menu and choose Reset Installer, then confirm. Wait for any backup, setup, removal or update to finish first. The app returns to the welcome screen and asks you to link your account again.

Reset Installer clears local onboarding and account-link state. After confirmation it permanently deletes Toggle’s local backups and setup checkpoints. It does not remove Toggle from your iPhone or delete devices in your account. Management identities and local error logs stay on this computer. Backups made separately with Finder or Apple Devices are not deleted.

Reinstall an earlier setup

If the installer detects an earlier Toggle setup after its profile was removed, choose Reinstall on the Plug in screen. Use the original setup computer and link the same account. Toggle must verify its saved supervision identity, account ownership and that no configuration profiles or active Block remain before offering Reinstall.

Reinstall creates a new encrypted backup before applying replacement Toggle settings. It does not start an erase. Keep the backup and its password, and check your apps, data and account after setup. Physical validation is pending for the production test release. Cancel before settings are applied leaves the earlier supervision in place; after the restore starts, resume that operation instead of starting again.

Toggle waits for the iPhone to report that the backup finished, then continues to setup. It does not run full backup-file scans or verify recovery contents. Keep the backup and its password. If an attempt stops, Copy details shows the error. Start again or Reset Installer starts a separate run after confirming permanent deletion of Toggle’s local backups and saved attempts; the old backup is not checked. Separate Finder or Apple Devices backups are kept.

Leaving Toggle

Remove your iPhone from your dashboard when no Block is on. Toggle stays on your iPhone until you do.

Dashboard removal ends management. Use Toggle on the original computer for any remaining local supervision cleanup, with no active Block. Keep the recovery backup in case recovery requires a full restore.
