Device management

How Toggle manages your iPhone

Production test release 0.5.27 for Apple silicon Mac. Physical iPhone validation is pending. Setup is enabled only for explicitly allowed test accounts. Toggle uses tools Apple built for managing iPhones. Here's what that means, plainly.

What Toggle can see

  • The list of apps installed on your iPhone
  • Whether Toggle's profiles are installed
  • Basic details: device name, model and iOS version

What Toggle can't see

  • Your messages, email or calls
  • Your photos or files
  • Your browsing or what you do inside apps
  • Your passwords

What supervision is

Supervision is an Apple setting usually used for company and school iPhones. Here, you supervise your own iPhone.

Supervision lets Toggle block apps. Keeping management in place depends on the device settings and must be checked on the actual iPhone.

How backup setup works

Toggle uses a limited local restore to apply supervision and management settings. This method is not Apple’s supported Automated Device Enrollment workflow.

Toggle automatically creates and verifies a full encrypted recovery backup. Enter the existing encryption password or choose a new one when encryption is off, and save it safely. Keep the backup until you explicitly delete it. Its password and contents are never uploaded to Toggle.

Check photos, messages, apps and passwords after the limited restore. Data preservation has not been physically validated for this test release. iCloud Backup is optional; recovery may require the encrypted full backup.

How Blocks reach your iPhone

Toggle uses Apple's device management, known as MDM. When a Block starts or ends, Apple tells your iPhone to check in with Toggle.

Your iPhone needs to be online. If it's offline when a Block ends, apps return when it reconnects.

What Toggle can change

Toggle hides the apps and blocks the websites in your Bundles while a Block is on.

Removal resistance depends on how your iPhone was set up and verified. A recovery restore can remove Toggle. Your setup app reports the checks for your device.

Leaving Toggle

Remove your iPhone from your dashboard when no Block is on. Toggle stays on your iPhone until you do.

Dashboard removal ends management. Use Toggle on the original computer to clear any remaining local supervision when no Block is active. The app verifies cleanup before retiring the setup record. Keep the encrypted recovery backup; failed cleanup may require recovery, including a full restore.

Deleting your account is a separate step. Delete your account

Only your own iPhone

Set up Toggle only on an iPhone you own and use. Toggle is for self-control, not for watching another person.
